Inhumane execution method magnifies cruelty of death penalty

A recent article has reported the particulars of Brad Sigmon’s execution on 7 March 2025 at the Broad River Correctional Institution in Columbia, South Carolina.

The article describes the horrific particulars of Brad’s execution which were witnessed by three media witnesses include that Brad was strapped onto a wooden chair, wearing a standard prison-issued black jumpsuit, and that his ankles were restricted by leather restraints. Further to this, Brad’s final statement was read by his lawyer before his death and a dark hood was placed over his head, a tiny white target with a red bullseye was pinned precisely over his heart and a basin was set below to catch his blood.

Brad’s grotesque execution has highlighted the cruel and inhumane methods of execution, and the need to demand urgent action to abolish the death penalty.
