Marion Bowman Jr: “Inhumane is an understatement”

A recent article has reported on the inhuman conditions death row inmates are held in prior to their executions.

Marion Bowman Jr has been held in a solitary cell for 135 days until South Carolina executes him. He is scheduled to be killed by lethal injection on 31 January 2025 and is the third man on South Carolina death row to be executed in rapid succession as the state revives capital punishment as the state has resumed executions following a 13 year pause.

The men on death row and their advocates have raised concerns regarding the brutal conditions they endure once placed on “execution watch” where they are forced into 24/7 isolation for months prior to being executed.

Mr Bowman was convicted of killing a childhood friend and maintained his innocence throughout. His lawyers have sought to overturn the conviction as Mr Bowman had ineffective counsel and have suggested a racist application of the death penalty.
