Concerns about Castle Law Legislation

The Katter Australia Party has introduced a bill to the Queensland Parliament  which, if enacted, would authorise householders to use lethal force against home intruders.

 The Julian Wagner Memorial Fund views this proposed legislation with great concern as it has the potential to lead to extra-judicial killing by householders and constitutes a form of state authorised killing akin to capital punishment.

It constitutes a large departure from the rule of law.

The proposed legislation is currently before a Parliamentary Committee for investigation and report.
