Japan’s Death Row

More than 70% of countries have abolished the death penalty in law or in practice, and President Joe Biden has promised to end capital punishment at the federal level. In Japan however, 80% of people remain in favour of the death penalty and although Japan’s leaders know retention makes them unique, are committed to retaining the cruel punishment. The Economist explores further here.
