Singapore executes a woman for first time in almost two decades

On 28 July 2023, Singapore hanged Saridewi Djamani for trafficking about 30g of heroin. She is the first woman to be executed in Singapore in almost 20 years, and is the second person to be executed in Singapore this week. Despite outcry from around the world, Singapore has executed 15 people since they resumed executions in March 2022.
