Unprecedented rise in women facing the death penalty.

The Iranian Supreme Court upheld the death sentence for Kurdish political prisoner Pakhshan Azizi, ignoring significant procedural flaws and evidence of her peaceful humanitarian work.

A recent article has reported that according to Ms Azizi’s legal counsel, Amir Raisian, the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence disregarding procedural and substantive flaws in the case, highlighting that Ms Azizi was never involved in any armed operations or military organisations.

Mr Raisian further outlined that the court ignored critical evidence and that the sentence was issued in violation of fair trial standards with the court failing to address the errors in the case.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights expressed concern over the surge in executions in Iran including the unprecedented rise in women facing the death penalty.
